Our Services
What to Expect When You’re Expecting… a Garden!
1. Consultation
Every new garden starts with a free site visit and consultation. This is our chance to get to know you, your space, and your vision for the garden. We want to know the plants you love, the plants you don’t, and the way you imagine living with your new garden. In this consultation, we will get all of the information we need to create a proposal and estimate to meet your needs.
2. Design
At Garden Gaze we like to dream big! We focus on phased design plans built to meet budget needs over time. Each design is proposed with a detailed budget outline for the first phase. From here, we can decide priorities and create a timeline to build your garden into your greenest fantasies.
3. Installation
After you agree to our garden estimate, our team of experienced landscapers will make your design a reality. All gardens utilize extensive soil amendment topped with pine straw, the traditional mulch of choice in New Orleans. In a majority of cases, we will install an irrigation system to ensure your garden will be healthy and hydrated with little to no effort from our clients.
4. Routine Maintenance
Gardens take care and expertise to be successful. We want to ensure that once a garden has been installed that it continues to look its best year round. New Orleans is known for its lush and vigorous gardens, and that means regular pruning, weeding, and replacement of plants that have come to the end of their glorious life cycle. The best gardens are ones created with intimate knowledge and care over time.
Landscaping Design
-
Every home or business has many areas that are rife with potential for beautiful plants, pots, and walkways. We understand that people’s schedules and priorities are constantly shifting, and investing in a garden can be daunting. This is why we focus on phased landscape design, building out gardens one stepping stone at a time. This way we can meet budget needs in the moment while continuing to envision the long-term goals of beautifying your space.
Installations
-
The basic building block of any good landscape design is in the bones. This means trees, shrubs, or other structural plantings that will create dimension and canopy layers for both visual interest and wildlife habitat.
-
At Garden Gaze, we like to use a strong mix of annual (plants that only live for one year, or even just one season) and perrenial (plants that live for two or more years) plants. This provides dynamic, seasonal color with plants that will grow and perform for you year after year.
-
Many yard spaces in New Orleans can be quite small, and much of that space is often taken up with brick or concrete. Don’t let this be a barrier to you and your lush tropical fantasies! Container gardens can be just as interesting as in-ground plantings, bringing beauty and class to a small space.
-
There is a growing movement for urban agriculture in the United States. New Orleans has a strong culinary history, and we encourage people to connect with that history by growing food in their own gardens. We highly recommend lead testing through the LSU Ag Center, which we will happily complete for clients who want in-ground edible gardens. Otherwise, we will build raised beds into the garden to ensure that plants are growing in rich, healthy soil.
-
Rain patterns are becoming increasingly unpredictable in the New Orleans area. With each installation, we install a simple, custom watering system to ensure that plants are being watered thoroughly and regularly according to the water demands of the design. This watering system can easily be adjusted according to seasonal change and shifts in weather.
Routine Maintenance
-
Gardens are living, changing things that require intimate knowledge and detailed care to respond to. We want to insure that if a need arises in the garden, we are there to listen and respond. That is why we highly recommend weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly routine maintenance to ensure the year round health and beauty of your garden.
This includes weeding, pruning, pest management, power washing, lawn care (not including seeding or de-thatching), soil amendment, and mulching.
